Ordinary People; extraordinary claims

“They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.” (Acts 4:13)

Peter and John were changed men.  They did not study to become Rabbis or Teachers.  They had no increased economic status.  What was it about them that led the religious authorities to perceive their courage and unusual power?  Because they were with Jesus.  And they also had the power of the resurrection (Philippians 3:10).

Dr. Radhakrishnan, one of the Presidents of India, who was considered a great philosopher, once commented on Christian that “they are ordinary people making extraordinary claims.”  In one way he was right.  We are ordinary people, but we belong to Jesus, through his death and resurrection.  Jesus himself made many such true extraordinary claims about himself, which can never be denied.  He was the way, the truth and the life.  He was the good shepherd.  He was the resurrection and the life.

A life changed by Jesus, continuing to follow Jesus will always be a challenge and amazement to others.  Let us be with Jesus and also follow Him.

How do people recognize us?

“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” (Phil. 2:5)
